WildRiver.pl Fishing Team qualifies for the Polish Grand Prix 2027

Three days of competition, difficult weather, moments of doubt and a thrilling finish. Our team has qualified for the 2027 Polish Team Spinning Grand Prix!

From 23 to 25 October 2026, Lake Chełmżyńskie hosted the Team Spinning Qualifiers for the 2027 Polish Grand Prix. Twenty-five two-person teams competed for 15 places in next year’s series.

WildRiver.pl Fishing Team, with Wojtek and Kuba on board, competed under the name WildRiver.pl 13 Legionowo. After three days we finished eighth overall, securing our place in the 2027 Grand Prix. The route to that result was anything but straightforward.

Before the competition: practice and a difficult choice of strategy

We did our best to prepare. During practice we located perch, but pike remained a much greater mystery. Despite searching, we failed to find them either in shallow water or suspended in open water.

The results of a competition held two weeks earlier gave us little cause for optimism. We followed it closely: only occasional pike were caught and the overall results were very poor.

Our choice of strategy was not easy. Should we rely on the more predictable perch, or risk searching for pike, which could deliver a much better result but whose location remained unknown? The competition would provide the answer.

Day one: a good start

We finished the first round with three perch and one pike. The result put us ninth overall and gave us reason to look forward to the remaining days.

We were inside the qualifying places, but knew that on such a demanding lake the standings could change very quickly.

Day two: a cold shower

The second round was the opposite of the first. Despite trying different approaches and searching for a successful method, we failed to catch a single qualifying fish. During the seven-hour round we caught perch after perch, but each was a few millimetres short of the 20 cm minimum length.

Last place in the round meant a painful drop to joint 16th–19th overall, outside the qualifying places. Before the final day we faced a difficult decision: without a decisive change in strategy, our chances of making up the lost ground were slim.

Day three: all in!

The final Sunday brought exceptionally difficult conditions. Torrential rain and wind gusting up to 20 m/s made travelling across the lake and fishing effectively a serious challenge.

After studying the overall standings, we realised that even catching perch successfully would not earn enough points to recover our position and qualify. We decided to abandon perch entirely and put everything on pike.

We worked through spots we had selected in advance, searching for fish we had failed to locate during practice. For the first part of the day our efforts brought no results, and time was running out.

The breakthrough came at around 11:00, when we finally found pike in a shallow bay. In just two and a half hours we caught five, transforming our position in the standings.

The catch earned us second place in the third and final round and lifted us to eighth overall. Sticking to our strategy had delivered the result we wanted: WildRiver.pl Fishing Team had qualified for the 2027 Polish Grand Prix!

Looking ahead to the 2027 Polish Grand Prix

The Polish Team Spinning Grand Prix is a national series for leading teams fishing from boats using spinning methods. Sixty teams compete in the first division, and participation also gives teams the right to enter the Polish Team Championships.

For us, qualification is both a sporting achievement and an opportunity to gain experience, refine our fishing techniques and test our ideas against other competitors.

That is what we value most about competitive fishing: the chance to keep learning, test new ideas and draw lessons that we can also apply to our everyday fishing and trips with Wild River guests.

Thank you

Thank you to all the competitors for the great atmosphere and sporting spirit, and to the organisers — the Polish Angling Association’s Toruń District and PZW Koło Miejskie nr 8 Chełmża — for preparing and running an excellent competition.

See you on the water and at future competitions!
