None of that matters for asps. But it is also unusual in nature: first, a long, long-drawn-out spring, and thus long-lasting cold water in our rivers. In the masovian Vistula, close to Warsaw, the asps finished spawning period in the last days of April, and then they were slowly recovering for at least two weeks and almost disappeared.

June surprised us with high temperatures, which, combined with the lack of rain, resulted in a rapidly falling water level and rising water temperature in rivers.

This situation is not best for fish, but (at least in the short term) it is perfect for anglers! Asps feed intensively, not only at dawn and in the evening, but also in the middle of a scorching day! Additionally, they gather in places where they have enough food and well-oxygenated water. It is enough to know where such places are and give a properly selected bait to catch your fill 🙂

In the last two weeks, each trip ends with at least a few fish, that return to the water after a quick unhooking.

This year is unusual in many ways… I don’t mean the Covid pandemic, rampant inflation or even the war in Ukraine.
